Hi Friends. I think you all are fine. ๐ ๐ Today I am going to present you the second book of Little House book series that was written based on real-life experiences of Laura Ingalls Wilder and it is Farmer Boy.
This book describes the childhood of Almanzo Wilder who later becomes Laura’s husband.
Almanzo spends his childhood on a farm. He started to go to school when he is eight. He goes to school with his brother and two sisters. Eliza Jane is one of these two sisters.
Though he lives in such a protected, comfortable and warm world, there is something that can frighten Almanzo. They are the big boys in Hardscrabble Settlement. Because they are dangerous bullies in the school. They have beaten two teachers in the school and kicked them out from the school. One of them was died because of wounds. Therefore Almanzo is afraid for his kind teacher, Mr. Corse. Will these bad boys hurt Mr. Corse? ๐ข
After the first day of his school, he helps to do the chores on the farm. At evening, he tastes a different kind of foods. (Ham, cheese, jam, baked beans, homemade bread, potatoes, turnip, pumpkin, pumpkin pie, apples, cider, popcorn, and etc. etc.-all these things in one evening!! ๐ต) Mmmmm. Yummy. Yummy.๐๐๐
Next day, they start their daily routine at 5 a.m. That day also Almanzo tastes a big tasty meal in the evening with his family members. ๐
Almanzo is in great fear. ๐ซ Because he is thinking that big boys in Hardscrabble will hurt Mr. Corse. But he has to go to school. Throughout the day, his doubt is being grown minute by minute. ๐จ A few students are crying. No one can concentrate on their work. ( Though his solution is not legal in present,) Mr. Corse resolves the problem in a wonderful way. ๐ ๐
Above all else, Almanzo loves foals and young horses. ๐ But he does not have permission to take care of them. ๐ First, he has to prove to his father that he is eligible for taking such a responsibility. ๐ช He gets excited when his father allows him to train the calves. ๐ฎ He receives a wonderful gift from his father. It is a plow for calves and a whole day for training them with the plow. ๐ฑ ๐ Though taking care of calves gives pleasure to Almanzo, his desire of taking care of foals did not vanish from his mind. Without vanishing, It only grew day by day. ๐
You can learn many things about ancient farming life by reading this book. You can learn how farmers in this old era made candles, how they grew crops, how they harvested, how they sheared sheep, how they made donuts, and so on. ๐
You will be happy reading Almanzo's story. And you also will definitely wish if you had such an amazing childhood like Almanzo. ๐ Almanzo's life on the farm is full of happy. Most of the days, without going to school, he enjoys his life by skating on the ice, catching fish, plucking berries and swimming. But sometimes he works hard for many hours. It balances his life. This hard work also gives pleasure to him except putting water to frozen corn. ๐ ๐
