Little House in the Big Woods By Laura Ingalls Wilder | Book Review

Hi everyone.

I am going to start my book reviewing journey from Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little House Book Series. I think most of you know Laura Ingalls Wilder. For those who don't know, I'll tell you a brief introduction to her.

Who is Laura Ingalls Wilder?

She was an American writer. She became famous for writing the Little House book series. She was born to an American pioneer family on 7th of February, 1867.

Little House series was written based on her real childhood life experiences in a pioneer family.

Today I am going to tell you about the first book of Little House Series. It is Little House in the Big Woods.

This book will take you to the last era of the 19th century. At that time Laura is about 4 years old baby girl. She lives in a small house corner of a big woods in Wisconsin with her family. Her family consists of her father, mother, two sisters named Mary and Carrie and also their dear dog Jack.

Their small house is surrounded by trees. And their close neighbors are bears, wolves, and leopards in the wood. So living is not a very easy thing for Ingalls' family. While preparing for the winter, they have to grow crops for their food by themselves. If not they have to go hunting. But they face every difficult situation successfully.

They celebrate Christmas with homemade toys and sweetmeats. In raining season, they get the harvest from the crops they grew in the Spring. Their first visit to the town occurs in this time. In every night, Laura and their sisters go to bed in this warm, protected, small house listening to the sound of their father's violin playing. Such an amazing childhood! Sometimes I feel very sad when I read this book series because I did not have such a wonderful childhood in my life. I think most of you also do not have this kind of childhood in your life.

Little House Book series which consist of 9 books bring us the real childhood life story of Laura's. These series have attracted young as well as elder readers from generation to generation.

I have a piece of good news for Sri Lankan Sinhala readers that you can have this book in the Sinhala language. Sri Lankan well-known translator whose name is Ganga Niroshini Suduwelikanda has translated this into Sinhala, naming the book as "වන අරණක කුඩා නිවස".
